Getting that perfect burger is all about heat, timing, and restraint.

 

1. Preheat your BBQ properly

Make sure your coals are glowing and covered in white ash, or your gas BBQ is on a medium-high heat.

 

2. Don’t press the burger

Place the burgers on the grill and leave them alone. Pressing them squeezes out all those delicious juices.

 

3. Cook time

Cook for around 4–5 minutes per side, turning only once. You’re looking for a deep, caramelised crust.

 

4. Add cheese (optional but recommended)

In the final minute, add a slice of cheese and close the lid to melt perfectly.

 

5. Rest before serving

Let them rest for a couple of minutes to keep them juicy.
